Will California Chrome win the 2014 Triple Crown?

California Chrome has evolved from a 300-1 longshot to win the Kentucky Derby to a decisive favorite in the second leg of the Triple Crown. Chrome will try to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to achieve the greatest accomplishment in thoroughbred racing. Note: even if Chrome wins the Preakness, twenty other horses have lost their bid for a Triple Crown after winning both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, five since 2002 alone including the most recent, I'll Have Another in 2012.

Will California Chrome win the 2014 Preakness Stakes?

California Chrome looks to become just the second horse since the 1993 champion, Prairie Bayou, to win out of the No. 3 post position. The odds imply that Chrome is 62 percent likely to win and according to it will take tough racing luck or a one-off career race by a contender to upset the favorite.

Will California Chrome win by a neck or more in the Preakness Stakes?
  • Yes: 10/13
  • No: 1/1
California Chrome won the Santa Anita Derby by 5 1/4 lengths after winning the previous three starts by an average of six lengths. California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby by 1 3/4 lengths but jockey Victor Espinoza backed off during the final yards or else the margin of victory could have been greater.
