Who are the best college basketball teams against-the-spread?

It is easy to tell which teams are the best in college basketball.

Kentucky is undefeated and the number one team in the country. Duke crushed Notre Dame 90-60 last Saturday avenging an earlier loss, while Virginia, Arizona, Wisconsin and Gonzaga are all teams that could find themselves in the Final Four. These teams will likely make deep runs in the NCAA Tournament but none are in the top 25 in terms of against-the-spread record.

Who are the best college basketball teams against-the-spread?

Utah Runnin' Utes (16-5 ATS)

The Utes haven't been dancing since 2009 and lost in the first round of the NIT last year. None of that matters as Utah has been a covering machine the last few seasons. The Runnin' Utes have had twenty or more wins against-the-spread in each of the last two seasons and have a college basketball best sixteen wins ATS this year. It's the best of both worlds for the fans in Salt Lake City, the Utes continue to cover and this season promises to end where few have, with an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Bowling Green Falcons (15-3 ATS)

Unless you are a big fan of the Mid-American Conference, you probably don't know much about Bowling Green. The Falcons have been the surprise team of the MAC with a 15-6 overall record and are tied for first in the league.

Bowling Green is also cashing tickets for gamblers. The Falcons have been underdogs in nine games this season and have covered in seven for a MAC-leading 15 wins ATS.

Seton Hall Pirates (15-7 ATS)

The Pirates have had an up and down season. Seton Hall beat up a soft non-conference schedule early in the season, but against Big East competition the team has a losing record. Of course two of those Big East wins have come against ranked teams. The Pirates are currently the 40th best team in our Power Rankings.

Like Utah and Bowling Green, Seton Hall is taking care of business both straight-up and against-the-spread. The Pirates have covered in fifteen out of twenty-two lined games. Seton Hall hasn't finished with a positive against-the-spread record since the 2011-12 season.

Additional Notes
  • Only twelve of the top 30 teams against-the-spread come from traditional power conferences – ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Big East, Pac-12 and SEC.
  • Eight of the top 30 teams against-the-spread have a losing record straight-up.
  • Kentucky might be undefeated but the Wildcats have not been kind to gamblers going 11-10 against-the-spread.
