Denver is now the favorite to win Super Bowl XLIX at 13/2 odds. The Broncos had trailed the Seahawks all offseason but Bovada Sports Book Manager Kevin Bradley said, “Since we opened these odds in February, Denver has taken twice as much money as Seattle.”

The public loves to root for winners and you may be tempted to bet on one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. But before you do, here are the preseason odds for each of the last thirteen Super Bowl champions. Odds courtesy of sportsoddshistory.com.

Preseason Odds for past Super Bowl winners

Year Team Odds
2013 Seahawks 8/1
2012 Ravens 18/1
2011 Giants 22/1
2010 Packers 11/1
2009 Saints 20/1
2008 Steelers 18/1
2007 Giants 30/1
2006 Colts 6/1
2005 Steelers 12/1
2004 Patriots 6/1
2003 Patriots 15/1
2002 Buccaneers 12/1
2001 Patriots 60/1

Only three of the thirteen past champions have had odds of less than 10/1 prior to the start of the NFL season. Only one team, the Colts in 2006, were the preseason favorites to win it all.

Past performance can be an indicator of future success but when it comes to betting Super Bowl odds, going chalk can be a big mistake.
