Trout is on track to lead the American League in Wins Above Replacement, a measure of a player's total contribution (offense and defense), for the third year in a row. The Angels' center fielder has finished second in the AL MVP voting the last two seasons but has been the favorite to win the award all season.

Through 165.1 innings the Mariners ace has an ERA of 2.01, best in the American League. Hernandez also set a new MLB record with 14 consecutive starts in which he gave up two or fewer runs in seven innings of work or more.
