MLB Playoff Probabilities – Who's in?

There is a little over a month of baseball to be played. Which teams are locks to make the postseason and which have work to do?

    Highlights:

The most likely World Series features the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. the Toronto Blue Jays.

St. Louis and Kansas City are locks to make the playoffs. There is a 6.0 percent chance that the Cardinals and Royals meet in the World Series – a rematch of the 1985 Fall Classic.

The Mets' playoff probability has increased 67.8 percent in August. The Amazins' have a 5.5 game lead over the Washington Nationals in the NL East and are 8.1 percent likely to win the World Series.

The Cubs are known as “The Loveable Losers,” but that nickname might change soon. Chicago went 19-8 in August and owns a 5.5 game lead in the second Wild Card. The Cubbies wear matching pajamas on team flights and have a 94.0 percent chance of making the playoffs.

Toronto added David Price and Troy Tulowitzki at the trade deadline. The acquisitions have helped the Blue Jays win 21 of their last 25 games. The Jays' World Series odds have improved 8.9 percent in the last month.

The Nationals, Angels and Giants have all seen their playoff probabilities decrease by at least 40 percent in the last 30 days.

Eight teams are greater than 90 percent likely to make the playoffs - bad news for those teams chasing the Wild Card.

No team has officially been eliminated from the playoffs, but by our projections nine clubs (zero percent chance of reaching the postseason) can start planning their offseason vacations.

06/04/2017 Highlight: With the NHL Stanley Cup Finals nearing its conclusion, we can leverage our ResultsFinder tool to profile our playoffs-to-date numbers. Since the start of May, the Predictalator is an incredible 25-9 (73.5%) on all NHL selections, including money line sides, totals, and puck lines. The NBA Playoffs have featured more ups-and-downs than the NHL postseason; however, totals continue to produce at a solid clip for the Predictalator. Dating back to the beginning of April, the Predictalator has posted a stellar 53-41 (56.4%) record on all playable NBA totals, producing $351 in total profit for a $50 bettor.
