Maryland is the favorite to win the 2016 men's basketball National Championship. This may come as a surprise to the casual fan but the Terrapins are legit.

The Terps return a National Player of the Year candidate in sophomore guard Melo Trimble and added the No. 2 center in ESPN's top 100 rankings all before securing the transfer of former Duke guard Rasheed Sulaimon.

Maryland's odds have improved from 12/1 to 9/1.

Kentucky, Duke and North Carolina are next at 10/1, followed by Kansas and Michigan State at 16/1. Bettors like Maryland. The Terps have taken more money than each of the three co-runners up.

Maryland won the National Title in 2002 but hasn't advanced to the Sweet 16 since 2003.
