With NFL training camps underway, we check in on a few key position battles around the league including NFL rookies. (2014 projections for rookies are based on this analysis which projects rookie seasons for all NFL prospects as if they were starters on average NFL teams).

In the lead up to the release of our 2014 NFL Preview, we look at some of the most prominent clashes occurring in NFL training camps.

The 2014 NFL Preview will be available on August 6th.

Green Bay Packers – Tight End competition

    Incumbent: Andre Quarless
    2013 Stats – 312 receiving yards, 2 TDs

Jermichael Finley's season (possibly career) ending neck injury opened the door for Quarless as a starter. In ten games as the No. 1 tight end Quarless averaged nearly three catches a game and 30 yards; the majority of those games were without Aaron Rodgers.

Quarless, the de facto starter, would be an interesting fantasy option with a full season from Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay's up-tempo passing attack. Quarless is currently being taken as the 40th overall tight end in fantasy drafts.

    Challenger: Richard Rodgers
    2014 Projections – 445 receiving yards, 5 TDs

The rookie third round draft pick received a lot of high praise during OTAs. One of seven tight ends on the roster, Rodgers will be active in the highly competitive battle for playing time. Rodgers biggest weakness is blocking, something the 270 pound tight end is looking to improve.

    Challenger: Brandon Bostick
    2013 Stats – 120 receiving yards, 1 TDs

The second year player caught seven passes last season before sustaining a foot injury. The best athlete of the group, Bostick has seen action with the first team and has impressed in training camp. Like Rodgers, blocking is an area of weakness and one that could limit his potential to get on the field.

The NBA Playoffs tipped off this week and the Predictalator is off to a stellar start.
