The final major championship of the year began Thursday morning. The PGA Championship features a number of storylines but none bigger than Tiger Woods and his quest to break Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major wins.

Tiger has won this event four times: 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007. However, if Woods does not win the pro's major his drought in major championships will extend to 18 tournaments. This is Tiger's last chance to capture a major before turning 38. Only two players (Ben Hogan and Nicklaus) have won four majors, the number needed for Tiger to tie Nicklaus' record, after turning 38 (ESPN Stats & Info).

Coming off his win last week, Tiger is the favorite at 7/2. Yet, there are some statistics that are not in Woods favor.

The last 20 majors have been won by 18 different players with only two players, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy, winning multiple majors in that span.

    Youth is Served
The average age of the last three PGA Champions is 24.3. Compare that to the British Open, which has had three straight winners age 42 or older (ESPN Stats & Info).

    Weekend Worries
In the last six majors, Woods is 11-under in rounds 1 and 2 but 23-over in rounds 3 and 4.
