    By John Ewing

Can Joey Chestnut defend his hot dog eating title? How many hot dogs will the winner eat? 2013 Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest prop bets. Lines courtesy of Bovada.lv.

Joey Chestnut is looking for his seventh straight “bejeweled” mustard-yellow belt, the award given to the winner of each year's contest. “Jaws” Chestnut holds the world record for eating 68 Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs and Buns in 10 minutes.

Chestnut is tied with former rival Takeru Kobayashi with six wins. Kobayashi has not competed since 2009 after refusing to sign a contract with Major League Eating, the governing body of all stomach-centric sports.

Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest has occurred each July 4th in Coney Island, NY since 1916, the year Nathan Handwerker opened the legendary restaurant. Major League Eating sanctions the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Circuit and ensures the contests are judged professionally and that safety standards are in place at each event.

Hot dogs, prop bets, and the Fourth of July, nothing could be more American.

MLB sides, totals, and run lines have all been profitable to date, generating a total of $580 for an average $50 bettor. There are have been a total of nine "normal" or better positions year-to-date, and those positions are a sparkling 8-1 (88.9%), producing $393 in total profits. There is a ton of variance in baseball and there will be ups-and-downs along the way, but the early returns on the Predictalator's baseball projections are promising.

The NBA Playoffs tipped off this week and the Predictalator is off to a stellar start. With a full season's worth of data to work with, the Predictalator has historically fared very well in the postseason across all sports, and this year has been no different.
